Malaysia records 85 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in a month

MALAYSIA today reported 85 new Covid-19 cases, making it the first time in about a month that the country reported less than 100 cases in a 24-hour span. 

The last time the Health Ministry reported a lower figure was on March 14, with 41 cases were detected.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also discharged 169 patients – almost double the number of new cases reported. 

“The number of discharges today is almost double the number of new Covid-19 cases reported,” he said at the daily press conference on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

This brings the total recoveries to 2,647, which translates to 52.2% of the total number of cases.  

Meanwhile, the number of new cases reported today brings total infections to 5,072. 

One more death was reported today. 

The 83rd death in the country was of a 69-year-old man who had a history of diabetics and high blood pressure.  

He was receiving treatment at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre and was pronounced dead at 6.41am. 

The rate of Covid-19 fatalities in Malaysia now stands at 1.64% of the total number of cases. 

At present, 56 cases are being treated at the intensive care unit, of which 32 require respiratory support. 

Meanwhile,  no new cases were reported across eight clusters.

The Kg Baru flat cluster reported four new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 27. 

Similarly, the Bali cluster in Kuantan reported four new cases, taking the total number of infections to 24.

The Jerantut Madrasah, meanwhile, reported two new cases. Positive cases in the cluster now number 64.

Noor Hisham also said Lembah Pantai has the highest number of Covid 19 cases nationwide, with two enhanced movement control orders (EMCO) in the area, the first was Menara Plaza City One, which was followed by Selangor and Malayan mansions.

“There is an increase of case detection in that area so, for example, Selangor Mansion has 83 cases, and Menara Plaza City One has 39,” he said today.

Meanwhile, there were four new cases at the Malayan Mansion today.

Lembah Pantai has reported the highest number of cases for the 12th day running, with a total of 572 cases since the start of the crisis. – April 15, 2020.
