MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamed has removed social media posts describing his visits to his constituents in Jeli during the movement control period.
The MP, who is known as Tok Pa, had posted pictures of him at the homes of several elderly residents in his parliamentary seat in Kelantan.
“Thank God, am finally able to return today to Jeli to visit the folks. It has been three weeks since I was back,” the post accompanying the pictures read on the @TokPa_Comms page.
The pictures show Mustapa seated closely with several people, presumably the constituents he was calling on.
The post and pictures are no longer on the page.
An official from the MP’s office confirmed Mustapa visited the Jeli residents but said it was to check whether they had received assistance during the shutdown period.
The official said the minister would hold a meeting with the various agencies for the distribution of aid to the Jeli residents.
“Tok Pa is in Jeli today and there will be a meeting. This is not a social visit. He wants to get feedback as he has given aid. He wants to make sure the aid had reached them,” said the official.
“He has returned today because he has a meeting with district officials and the Social Welfare Department to discuss the distribution of aid.”
He said many of the people of Jeli, who were mainly farmers, were badly affected by the movement control order.
Assemblies and social gatherings are prohibited during this time.
The MCO came into force on March 18 as a measure to halt transmission of the coronavirus amid a pandemic. The order has since been twice extended to now end on April 28.
People are ordered to stay home and to go out only when it is neccesary.
Jeli is designated a Covid-19 yellow zone with two reported cases of infection. – April 12, 2020.
