THE Health Ministry is against barber shops operating during the third phase of the movement-control order (MCO), as well as for students stuck at campuses nationwide to return to their home states.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the measures taken under the first and second phases of the MCO from March 18 to April 14 should continue under the third phase, which ends on April 28.

Despite the wishes of the private sector, he said such operations “should be delayed”.

“We cannot hope to return to normalcy during this phase. We should continue to maintain social distancing and public gatherings as best as we can,” he said at the daily press briefing on Covid-19 today.

Dr Noor Hisham was asked about the National Security Council’s move to allow certain professional services, including barbers, to operate.

This was announced yesterday, following the government’s move to extend the MCO until April 28.

The services allowed to operate will have to obtain permission from the International Trade and Industry Ministry.

One barber and hairstylists association, however, is against the move, as barbers would have to be in close contact with customers. – April 11, 2020.

  • Doubt anyone with a small grain of brain cell will want to go for a haircut now. It shows what is stored in the "cabinet" now.
