A BARBERS’ and hairstylists’ group does not agree with Putrajaya’s move to allow them to resume services during the movement-control order (MCO), Free Malaysia Today reports.

The portal quoted Selangor and Federal Territories Indian Hairstylists’ Association chairman Ganathiban Murugan, who said the move was unwise as barbers have to come into close contact with customers.

“How do we keep a safe distance from them? We do not know who has the virus,” he was quoted as saying, adding that barbershops and salons should not be opened for now.

“It is the wrong time. When we want to work, we should work without fear.”

Ganathiban told FMT that measures can be implemented such as only serving one customer at a time and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like doctors, but wondered whether these could be implemented successfully.

Putrajaya yesterday extended the MCO, due to end on April 14, by another two weeks to April 28.

The government also said some services will be allowed to operate, including barbers but only for haircuts.

Businesses allowed to operate must first obtain written approval from the International Trade and Industry Ministry and also abide by health and safety rules against the Covid-19 virus. – April 11, 2020.

  • There are bigger issues than this hair cut business, isn't the objective of the MCO is to curb and flatten the graph, can you policy makers stick the objectives in mind please and don't play politics here just let the honourable Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan do his job as he is the only one seem to know what to say and what to do, the politicians including the top guys does lips service
