DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi visited Anwar Ibrahim at Kuala Lumpur Hospital today, a day after Najib Razak went to see the jailed opposition leader, who is recuperating post-surgery.

The deputy prime minister’s Twitter account, DPM Office Malaysia, posted a photo of Zahid and his wife, Hamidah Khamis, with Anwar, who was in a hospital bed, around 4.30pm.

Also in the photo were two of Anwar’s daughters, Nurul Nuha and Nurul Ilham.

“DPM DS Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and wife, DS Hamidah Khamis, visiting DS Anwar Ibrahim at HKL,” said the administrator-managed account with the handle @DPMOMalaysia.

A while later, Zahid tweeted on his own account, @Zahid_Hamidi, a photo of his visit, and his wishes for Anwar to have a speedy recovery.

“Just visited DS Anwar Ibrahim, who has completed surgery on his right shoulder at HKL recently. May he recover quickly.”

Prime Minister Najib and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, visited Anwar yesterday, with the PKR de facto leader’s wife and party president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, present.

Anwar’s son, Muhamad Ihsan, later issued a statement, thanking the prime minister for the visit.

Anwar, who is serving a five-year sentence for a second sodomy charge, underwent surgery on his right shoulder last week following a severe injury due to an accident when he was travelling in a Prisons Department vehicle.

Najib’s visit was greeted with scepticism by some Twitter users earlier today, as the sodomy charge and conviction have been alleged by opposition supporters and Najib’s critics to be politically motivated. – November 18, 2017.
