SELANGOR has suspended all Ramadan bazaars statewide after discussions with local authorities, deeming such gatherings a risk due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
“The state government today held a state executive council meeting to discuss this.
“Later, we will formally announce the cancellation or postponement of all Ramadan bazaars until a more appropriate time,” he told a press conference in Shah Alam after announcing the state’s second stimulus package.
“If the Health Ministry declares it is all right to go ahead, then we will go ahead. However, for the time being, we are suspending any plans for Ramadan bazaars,” he said, adding that this was discussed in teleconferences with the local authorities.
Amirudin said while the bazaars will be cancelled, today’s technology may yet see the birth of online Ramadan bazaars.
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa had said no decision has been made on Ramadan bazaars while the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a series of tweets last night, he said local authorities will brief him on Friday on their proposals for the bazaars. – April 1, 2020.
