NO decision has been made on Ramadan bazaars while the country is still battling the Covid-19 pandemic, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.
In a series of tweets last night, he said local authorities will brief him on Friday on their proposals for Ramadan bazaars.
“KKM and MKN (Health Ministry and the National Security Council) must be consulted before any decision is made.
“No decision until and unless we receive clear guideline(s) and advice from KKM and MKN.
“Local authorities in WP (federal territories) are required to brief me on current status and their plan. Please be patient,” Annuar said.
He also refuted news reports that he is allowing Ramadan bazaars but with adjustments, such as fewer stalls and spacing out stalls further apart from each other.
“What decision on bazaar Ramadan? I have daily meeting with DG (director-general) MOH (Health Ministry). We have not discussed, will do soon,” Annuar said in another tweet in reply to a comment.
Annuar’s comments on “adjustments” to Ramadan bazaars were reported yesterday by national news agency Bernama.
The remarks drew criticism from social-media users who said the move was unwise in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Negri Sembilan and Terengganu have so far been the first states to cancel Ramadan bazaars, with Terengganu opting to provide an online platform for vendors to sell food.
The fasting month begins on April 23, a little more than a week after the current movement control order ends on April 14. – April 1, 2020.
