A DOCTOR and her 9-month-old son who were killed in an accident at Gua Musang were travelling to the area as she was on attachment there, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said because of the movement control order, she decided to take her family with her.

“Her attachment was in Gua Musang. Unfortunately, there was a motor vehicle accident, and we feel unfortunate for her and her family,” he said at his daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

Reports that a baby had been in the ministry van involved in the crash had raised questions about why ministry resources were being used to transport regular people instead of emergency cases.

In the incident on Sunday, seven others were injured when the van crashed into a roadside ditch at Km11 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai near Kg Renok Baru.

Gua Musang police chief superintendent Mohd Taufik Maidin had identified those who died in the 9.50am crash as Dr Nooranisah Mohd Razali, 31, and her son, Mohammad Fitri Yusof Muhammad Hafiz Zulilmi.

“The doctor died on the spot from severe injuries to the head and body while her son died at Gua Musang Hospital at 11.02am,” he had said, adding that six others were healthcare workers while the driver and the van are from Kuala Krai Hospital.

He had said the injured are in stable condition at Gua Musang Hospital.

The medical staff from Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai were heading to Gua Musang Hospital on official duties, he had said.

Taufik had said the dead were taken to Gua Musang Hospital and the bodies were released to the family. – March 31, 2020.
