Ramadan bazaars will be held, with some changes, says Annuar

THE management of Ramadan bazaars in the Federal Territories will be modified this year to prevent congestion at stalls, said Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories minister said his ministry will work with the relevant parties before making an announcement soon.

“Just because Singapore or other parties have announced that there will be no bazaars this year, does not mean we will say the same thing,” he said before viewing disinfection works at shops in Presint 15, Putrajaya, today.

He said the Ramadan bazaars will not be cancelled but will be adjusted as the people, especially those living in cities, needed them.

“We have to think of the needs of urban folk, who do not have time to cook after returning from work,” he said.

“I want this matter to be looked at as previous Ramadan bazaars were usually big and spread out, and we probably cannot do the same (this year),” he said.

He added that Ramadan bazaars this year could be held with a maximum of 50 stalls in any one place, or even only 10 stalls that are spaced out.

“Whether the movement control order (MCO) is continued or not, we will not carry on with the old way, which could cause health problems.

“We have to improve our lifestyle, not just through exercise and self-discipline during the MCO. There are many things we can learn and continue to practise post-MCO,” he said. – Bernama, March 31, 2020.

  • Go ahead, if any pandemic again, u must promise to resign. U will be assigned to take care of the COVID patients. If y dare to do it, u must be willing to be fully responsible for any undesirable outcome . Don't make a decision to ask others to suffer. Hell u go.

  • Reducing the number of stalls means more people queuing up for the limited choices available. The queues will be a mile long. That is, if people even want to queue. Bijak. This is an accident waiting to happen.

  • I agree with James Wong. As long as one person gets infected, you must assume full responsibility and resign immediately. It is so easy to put everyone's life at risk. Moreover if it is allowed, then might as well allow the pasar tani and pasar malams to operate with your ingenious self-discipline exercise. Talk about "may tihngs we can learn post MCO", what have you learnt from Tabligh cluster?

  • Very stupid decision just to appease a particular group of people for his own political reason. The Backdoor minister should resign.
