41 new Covid-19 cases linked to tabligh event, says Health Ministry

FORTY-ONE new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, the Health Ministry said today, the biggest single-day number of confirmed cases.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 41 cases, 37 were from patients under investigation while the rest were patients who had close contact.

“With these 41 new cases, the number of Covid 19 cases in the country now stands at 238 cases,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

He said the 41 new cases were all linked to the tabligh gathering at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur on February 28.

Today’s figure surpasses yesterday’s record of 39 new cases, brings the total to 238.

Noor Hisham said two cases (patients 35 and 61) have recovered and have been discharged from Sungai Buloh Hospital.

He noted with this, 35 patients have been treated and discharged from ministry facilities.

He said 203 cases were being treated in wards with five cases on respirators to assist their breathing and they are being given anti-viral treatments.

Noor Hisham said up to March 14, 1,321 samples had been taken from patients displaying influenza like-illness and severe acute respiratory infection, and tested at the Institute of Medical Research.
