PERAK Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu has resigned following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
He conveyed his decision this morning during an audience with the sultan of Perak, who has accepted his resignation, effective today.
Faizal said he told Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah that he had to quit as Bersatu had left the Pakatan Harapan, which left the state government without the numbers in the legislative assembly.
“With my resignation, the state executive council members are also no more with immediate effect.
“I will leave it to the sultan to appoint a new menteri besar and form a new state government,” he told reporters after the meeting at the Istana Kinta.
The PH government collapsed yesterday after three assemblymen left their respective parties to become independents supporting Perikatan Nasional.
They are DAP’s Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong and Buntong representative A. Sivasubramaniam, and Amanah’s Titi Serong representative Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim.
With the defection, Perikatan Nasional counts 32 assemblymen among its ranks while PH has 24 in the 56-seat assembly.
Perak Umno liaison chairman Saarani Mohamad said his party, PAS and Bersatu will propose to Sultan Nazrin several names for the menteri besar position. – March 9, 2020.
