BERSATU MPs and the 11 independents in Mohamed Azmin Ali’s bloc will back Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister, said Redzuan Yusof.

The Alor Gajah MP said the decision was made at a meeting at Muhyiddin’s house this afternoon after the Bersatu president met its chairman and interim prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad earlier at his office in Putrajaya.

Azmin’s lieutenants Zuraida Kamaruddin and Hillman Idham also attended the meeting.

“Yes, we are supporting Muhyiddin. This includes the 11 independents from Azmin’s bloc,” the Bersatu supreme councillor said outside Muhyiddin’s house in Bukit Damansara today.

Bersatu has 26 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir had said he has no qualms with Muhyiddin becoming the next prime minister.

He said in his two-hour meeting with Muhyiddin, the possibility of the latter being chosen as prime minister was discussed.

“There were various possibilities that we discussed, including the possibility that Muhyiddin might become a candidate for the post of prime minister.

“If everybody (MPs) chooses him, I’m okay. If he goes to Parliamnet and gets a full majority, then he has the right to become PM,” Dr Mahathir said after announcing the economic stimulus package in Putrajaya today.

He said Muhyiddin was more accepting of opposition members.

“My position is I will not accept Umno, but I will accept those who leave Umno.” – February 27, 2020.

    • Are you serious? Tun is still the president of Bersatu, and he has no objection that his no. 2 accepts UMNO and PAS to be in his government. What does this mean to you?

  • U may have the money but certainly not trustworthiness and not my respect. I feel sad for the country.
