UTUSAN Online has begun advertising openings on its website.
The recruitment ad, posted by publishing company Media Mulia Sdn Bhd, which holds the permit for the Malay daily, offers vacancies for news editors, assistant news editors, journalists, photographers and artists.
The Malaysian Insight reported previously that Utusan was likely to resume publication in April
Utusan Malaysia, the country’s oldest Malay daily, as well as sister publication Kosmo!, was shut down in October last year over accumulated debts estimated at between RM240 million and RM340 million.
The company went into liquidation and saw about 800 employees terminated.
The revived outfit is to be much smaller, with “changes to the way things work”, sources previously told The Malaysian Insight.
It is also understood that the company will prioritise former employees for job openings while also taking in fresh blood.
Some former workers are still waiting to receive their compensation packages after being retrenched.
The new company, Media Mulia, formerly known as Aurora Mulia, is linked to billionaire Syed Mokhtar Albukhary. It bought a 70% stake in Dilof Sdn Bhd, the holding company which owns Utusan’s printing licence. – February 17, 2020.
