PENANG DAP has collected RM5.13 million for the Penang typhoon and flood relief fund as of 10am today.

State party vice-chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the money was raised in just 64 hours after the fund was launched on Sunday.

He said all the money will be channelled to the state government for use in flood relief work.

“We will continue raising money until November 15,” he told a press conference at the state legislative assembly building today.

A storm on Saturday and Sunday brought record rainfall to Penang and strong winds. Some 80% of Penang was affected by heavy rain and strong winds that caused flash floods, landslides and uprooted trees.

Zairil said the fund was launched after Penang DAP received queries by people who wanted to help victims of the flood disaster.

“We are very grateful to those who have generously contributed to the fund,” he said.

Meanwhile, two non-governmental organisations, the LLG Cultural Centre and Good Friends Association each donated RM20,000 to the state’s typhoon and flood relief fund today.

Later, the Nattukkottai Chettiar Temple board of trustees donated RM25,000.

Those who want to donate can send cheques made payable to “DAP Penang” with the address No. 3 Jalan Rangoon, George Town, Penang.

Donations can also banked in to the party’s Maybank account 5070-1301-4596. – November 8, 2017.
