THE Bar Council has initiated action against lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, who declared himself a racist in an interview last month.

President Abdul Fareed Abdul Ghafoor said there are guidelines on how lawyers should act in public, and so, the “necessary steps” have been taken against Khairul Azam.

“We have taken the necessary steps, but we can’t disclose them. They are confidential.

“For lawyers, there are guidelines to follow, and we have to act on that.”

In an interview with The Malaysian Insight, Khairul Azam not only admitted to being a racist, but said everyone is.

“Who is not a racist? Everyone is racist. So, why do you accuse Malays of being racists?”

The 42-year-old Putra vice-president regularly trolls social media when it comes to Malay issues, under the Twitter handle @suakeris.

“If people are angry with what I have written, then my mission is accomplished.”

He made the news for kicking up a fuss – supposedly on behalf of “Malay parents” – over a school’s Chinese New Year decorations, calling them a veiled attempt at proselytising to Muslim pupils. – February 14, 2020.
