MOHD Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, the man who raised a stink over Chinese New Year decorations in a school in Puchong, was today questioned by the authorities today over his Twitter remark on Chinese cemeteries.

He spent nearly two hours at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission headquarters in Cyberjaya this afternoon being interviewed by investigators.

Earlier this morning, he was questioned by the police for more than an hour over his letter which had complained about Chinese New Year decorations in SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong 1.

The Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) vice-president, who is also a lawyer, said he was unaware that he would be questioned over two different issues.

“My statement to MCMC was not over the school issue but over a Twitter post of mine which had questioned the sizes of Chinese burial plots.

“The MCMC meeting had nothing to do with the school issue. I gave the MCMC my cooperation in its investigation,” he told reporters.

He said the police were investigating him over his letter to the school, while the MCMC was probing his January 1 tweet which, among others, brought up the size of Chinese burial plots which he had said were a waste of space and should be smaller.

He said he was ready to assist the police if they were also going to investigate him over the tweet.

Khairul had recently sent a letter to the SMK Bandar Puchong 1 principal about the school’s CNY decorations which he said were attempts to propagate a religion to students.

Khairul said Muslim parents had complained about the decorations.

“The complaints we’ve received show unease over the excessive CNY 2020 decorations in your school. Some parents say the school looks like a Chinese-owned market with religious elements on display..

“This is distressing for Muslim students and is also against Article 3(1) of the federal constitution,” he said in the letter to principal Rohani Mohd Nor, which the sender had shared on Twitter.

Article 3(1) states that “Islam is the religion of the federation; but other religions may be practised in peace and harmony in any part of the federation”.

Following the furore created by the letter, the cabinet had rallied behind the school, school, urging people like Khairul not to confuse religion with culture.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and a team of ministers also visited the school yesterday to lend their support. The school was asked to put up its decorations

Speaking to reporters after his morning session with police today, Khairul said the ministers’ visit to the school was a victory for him.

“I am proud that as a normal citizen with nothing, my letter to the school has attracted so much attention, even from the cabinet.

“Seven minister visited the school as a result of my letter. I am excited when my letter sees this sort of response. This is why I feel I have won. If you feel I am a loser, that is up to you,” he said. – January 9, 2020.

  • He should be sent to a psychiatrist to test his sanity before any legal action against him. I think he could have some kind of mental problem. The members who chose him to be the leader must be mentally sick.
