Number of Kedah flood victims nears 2,000


THE total number of flood victims in Kedah as at 4pm today has increased to 1,906, compared with 1,025 people at noon.

State Civil Defence Force director Lieutenant-Colonel (PA) Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin said all evacuees, from 529 families, were seeking shelter at 34 relief centres since yesterday evening, and today, they involved residents from Kuala Muda, Yan, Kulim, Bandar Baharu and Baling.

In Kuala Muda, 14 evacuation centres were opened, including the Kampung Bongkok surau, involving 60 victims, Kampung Tengah Padang Temusu hall (8) and Steang Wam Kowang hall (23).

The Kampung Padang Tok Sorak surau is housing 72 victims, Kampung Bukit Belah Batu Dua hall (19), Taman Bedong Jaya hall (80), Taman Malinja surau (20), SK Sri Gedong (33), Kampung Segantang Garam hall (15), Kampung Kilang Makau (40), Kampung Haji Ngah surau (100), Kampung Jawa surau (26) and Kampung Baru hall (25).

In Yan, four relief centres were opened, namely the Kampung Perigi Kemas kindergarten, housing 15 victims, Kampung Teroi Bukit surau (89), Kampung Lubok Boi surau (24) and Kampung Kepala Bukit surau (66).

In Kulim, 14 evacuation centres were opened, including the Masjid Al-Muqtadin hall, housing 152 victims, Taman Saga hall (36), SK Taman Selasih (171), Al-Haq surau (30), Taman Kancil surau (112) and Masjid Sungai Limau hall (50).

In Bandar Baharu, a relief centre was opened at the Sungai Batu hall, housing 25 victims, while 103 victims sought shelter at the Kuala Bakong Mosque in Baling. – Bernama, November 5, 2017.
