BERSATU will discuss tomorrow the involvement of its members in a recent “drug-fuelled” party, said party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said Bersatu has its own guidelines on ethics and discipline.
“The matter will be discussed at tomorrow’s supreme council meeting.
“We must be fair. Until a person is convicted, he is still innocent.
“But from the standpoint of the party, (about image and discipline), we will decide tomorrow,” Muhyiddin told reporters, adding that the meeting will be headed by party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
A total of 17 people were detained in the 4.40am operation on Monday, including a special officer to the home minister, and one to the youth and sports minister, as well as an aide to an assemblyman.
It was reported that among those arrested was Adhif Syan Abdullah, who is a first-term Dengkil assemblyman and Selangor Bersatu youth chief.
He later told the press that he was “simply at the wrong place at the wrong time”, and vowed to continue serving his constituency.
The others are said to include Adhif’s aide, an assistant to the prime minister’s political secretary, former SEA Games gymnastics champion Kau Git Kuar, a businessman, his colleagues, and a Unitar International University student.
Sixteen of the 17 nabbed tested positive for methamphetamine.
They were released after their statements were taken, but are expected to be brought back to the police when other test results come in. – January 16, 2020.
