ANWAR Ibrahim has welcomed a decision by the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) not to charge him following the complaint by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther that Anwar outraged his modesty.
However, the PKR president said he will continue to pursue an earlier civil suit he had filed against his former aide.
“I have reviewed today’s statement from Solicitor-General Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek. I welcome the AGC’s decision to bring an end to this matter and I thank the authorities for their professionalism,” he tweeted.
To ensure justice and accountability, the civil suit filed earlier will be maintained,” he said.
Anwar’s lawyer Ramkarpal Singh said last month that a letter of demand had been served to Yusoff over the allegation.
However, it was later reported that the letter mailed to Yusoff’s Penang address was returned undelivered.
Meanwhile, Anwar also said that legitimate claims should investigated according to due process.
“While legitimate claims should be investigated according to due process, we cannot condone frivolous, vexatious and scurrilous allegations, especially when they impugn the integrity and honour of innocent Malaysians,” he added.
The Port Dickson MP said although the matter has to be dealt with in accordance to the law, he will not forgive his accuser for the “disgusting, irresponsible and insulting accusation”.
Engku Nor Faizah said in a statement today that investigations revealed there was no case to answer.
The solicitor-general added the AGC found there was a lack of evidence to proffer charges.
“After reviewing the facts of the case in the investigation papers submitted by the police, we have found factual contradictions, which do not support any kind of charges against anyone under Section 354 of the Penal Code or any other sections in the code,” Engku Nor Faizah said. – January 14, 2020.
