Darling, take charge, you’re PM, Rosmah tells Najib in clip

ROSMAH Mansor is heard telling her husband Najib Razak to “take charge” because he is prime minister in an audio clip released by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

The recordings show Najib and other high-ranking individuals conspiring to manipulate information related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

“I don’t like this. Darling, you are the prime minister, you should take in charge, not anybody else, OK?” Rosmah is heard saying in a loud and firm voice in one of nine audio clips MACC released to the media today.

Najib responds by saying, “Yup, I understand”.

“You’ve got goons around you,” said Rosmah.

Their exchange appears to relate to the appointment of former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad, who was appointed to head the anti-graft agency in August 2016. He resigned in May 2018.

Najib’s voice is audible while Rosmah complains about their situation, “Understand, understand, I’ve already signed the letter for Dzul’s appointment”.

The clip is one of nine recorded in January, February and July of 2016, the year the 1MDB scandal erupted in public.

Various media, including whistle-blower website Sarawak Report, reported leaked information about the alleged misappropriation of funds through a complex web of transactions and shell companies.

Dzulkifli was implicated recently in the tampering of an 1MDB audit report in 2016 when former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa gave evidence during the joint trial of Najib and former 1MDB chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

Ali told the court that it was Dzulkifli who suggested removing Najib’s name from the report at a February 24, 2016 meeting between 1MDB officials and certain senior government officials.

Before he became MACC chief commissioner in August that year, Dzulkifli was a legal representative with the Attorney-General’s Chambers. He attended that meeting in that capacity.

He was questioned by the MACC over the matter after he resigned in 2018.

Dzulkifli replaced Abu Kassim Mohamed, who in 2015 began investigating the RM2.6 billion “donation” deposited into Najib’s bank account.

The following year, MACC was ready to act against Najib when then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was abruptly removed from office, and Kassim stepped down.

MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said today that the audio recordings showed “a clear case of abuse of power, conspiracy, fabrication of false evidence and leaking state secrets”, and would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action. – January 8, 2020.
