THE next education minister must be a Malay-Muslim who can drive the national education agenda based on Malaysia’s stand as a sovereign Islamic nation, said a PAS lawmaker today.

Kuala Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim said it’s also possible that Maszlee Malik was a victim of an agenda to weaken efforts to base national education on the federal constitution.

“His replacement as education minister must be a Malay-Muslim with better qualities and possessing the drive to bolster education based on Malaysia’s mould as a sovereign Islamic nation,” he said in a statement today.

Maszlee resigned yesterday as the education minister, citing unfavourable press coverage and politicking as reasons.

He said controversies always overshadowed his achievements while delivering his exit speech.

The controversies included the plan to teach Jawi in vernacular schools, provision of free breakfasts in schools nationwide and the cancellation of a contract to provide online connectivity to pupils and teachers. – January 3, 2020.

  • As long as there is racial & religious agenda, public schools, govt colleges & Uni go nowhere. PAS is a lizard hanging in roof top and a frog in an unwanted pond. Ignore them. If there is too much emphasis in the education system on racial & religious matters, the most impacted race will be the bumis...
