PLUS Malaysia Bhd said today it will collect toll at the Bukit Kayu Hitam plaza until December 31.

Confusion had arisen following news that a new toll plaza in Bukit Kayu Hitam will be introduced while the toll plaza operations move to a new location from 6am tomorrow.

“PLUS would like to inform the public that the Bukit Kayu Hitam toll plaza operations at Km65 of the North-South Expressway will move to a new location at Km1, starting 6am on November 1.

“But after the relocation, the toll collection at Bukit Kayu Hitam will be implemented until December 31 this year.

“This follows the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Razak during the tabling of Budget 2018 that the Bukit Kayu Hitam toll collection will be abolished,” PLUS said in a statement today.

The relocation of the toll plaza is part of the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex project in Bukit Kayu Hitam. The new toll plaza coincides with the opening of the complex.

PLUS also said starting tomorrow, the toll plaza will operate from 6am to 2am daily. Previously, operations stopped at midnight.

Pictures of banners announcing that the Bukit Kayu Hitam toll plaza will operate from a new location from tomorrow went viral on social media yesterday.

Social media users unaware of the ICQS relocation accused Najib of lying about the abolishment of toll.

Nafi Isbat on Facebook said: “Najib kata plaza tol bukit kayu hitam di tutup tapi rupanya ada yg baru…” (Najib said toll will be abolished but turns out there is a new one.)

“Mansuh yg lama buat yg baru..bijak2 (Abolish the old toll, introduce a new one. Clever, clever),” another Facebook user Gorgom Ganaz said.

A few were more alert, like Mohd Syahril Mahadzir, who said PLUS was merely moving into a new office.

“The complex was being upgraded. Once completed, they have to move on November 1. So, the toll plaza has to move as well. It doesn’t mean they are opening a new toll, just opening a new PLUS office,” he said.

(Tol tu dlm kompleks ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam. Kompleks tu tgh naik taraf. Jdi bila siap, depa akan pindah kompleks baru tu 1 Nov nie lah. Jadi sekali dgn plaza tol tu kena pindah sekali la..bukannya bermaksud nak buka tol baru..tapi nak buka office PLUS baru.)

The toll in Kedah, which motorists use to enter Thailand, is one of four to be abolished next year, as announced in Budget 2018. The rest are the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau tolls along the Federal Highway, and the Eastern Dispersal Link in Johor.

PLUS currently owns 94 toll plazas nationwide. – October 31, 2017.
