THE Umno disciplinary board has summoned former party vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein to a hearing for allegedly ignoring party orders and breaching party constitution.
Board chairman Mohamed Apandi Ali sent a show cause letter dated December 13 to the Sembrong MP, with the order to attend the hearing at Umno headquarters on December 26, 2pm.
Apandi said the board decided to convene after receiving complaints about Hishammuddin.
Apandi said Hishammuddin had the option of refuting the complaints with a written explanation accompanied by evidence.
“The proceeding will continue even if you are not present and a decision will be made,” said Apandi in the letter sighted by The Malaysian Insight.
The letter said Hishammuddin has been accused of disobeying party instructions and failure to adhere to the party policies.
He is also accused of failing to protect the reputation and dignity of Umno.
Punishment for these offences ranges from warning to sacking.
A guilty member may also be stripped of his membership rights and barred from taking part in party elections.
In recent weeks, several party leaders have called for action to be taken against Hishammuddin for trying to persuade Umno MPs to defect to Bersatu.
Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam had filed a complaint with the party disciplinary board after reports emerged in mid-November that some two dozen Umno MPs including Hishammuddin had attended a “dinner meeting” hosted by PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Lokman said Umno should take disciplinary action against Hishammuddin for trying to get the party leaders and MPs to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Azmin.
Hishammuddin has been linked to a rumoured plot to form a new government through a realignment of political loyalties, which Pakatan Harapan supporters have labelled “a government by the backdoor”.
The former defence minister has denied claims of his involvement in efforts to sideline Dr Mahathir’s successor, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. – December 16, 2019.
