DEPUTY PKR youth chief Hilman Idham wants party members to return to the ideals and principles that drove it to federal power to resolve its leadership crisis.

Hilman, seen to be an ally of party deputy president Azmin Ali,  said everyone was aware of the fracas that took place at the PKR annual congress in Malacca over the last few days.

“We cannot deny that there is a serious leadership crisis in the party,” he told a crowd at the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 event in Kuala Lumpur today.

He called on members to return to the ideals and principles of PKR so that the party remains relevant and continues to be the hope of the people.

Meanwhile, PKR Wanita chief Haniza Talha said a political party is at the brink of collapse if its leaders could not be criticised.

She said this was a sign that its leader had become a dictator but did not refer to anyone by name.

She said a leader would not been seen as weak if he owned up to his weakness.

“There is nothing wrong in admitting one is weak. If a leader can no longer be critcised it’s the end for the party as the leader has become a dictator,” she said

Though the event is being pitched as one to brief leaders on the government’s Shared Prosperity Vision, it is widely seen as a platform for Azmin and his faction to vent their anger at the PKR leadership.

Azmin and his supporters, such as PKR vice-presidents Zuraida Kamaruddin and Ali Biju have decided not to show up at today’s party conference closing, leaving only Tian Chua from the PKR deputy president’s camp to address the delegates at the closing event.

Azmin said they walked out because Anwar had reneged on the terms of their truce by allowing delegates to attack him during the debates.

He added Anwar had “allowed” the attacks against him by making references to Si Kitol, a figure in Malay literature who has become a symbol of treachery. – December 8, 2019.
