TOLL collection at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau along the Federal Highway was only scheduled to expire on December 31, 2038, said PLUS Malaysia Bhd, the country’s biggest highway concessionaire.
“The announcement made by the prime minister means that abolishment of toll collection effective January 1, 2018 at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas are realised 20 years ahead of schedule,” PLUS said in a statement today.
The company said it had received several enquiries on the compensation due on the abolition of toll collection at the two toll plazas, as well as the third in Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.
“As discussions are ongoing, we will make the necessary announcement upon receiving further details from the government,” the statement on the company’s website said.
It pointed out that it had restructured the collection for all tolls under its control following the 2011 privatisation and revised Concession Agreement the same year, adding that there had been no increases on PLUS highways since 2005.
Najib, who is also finance minister, announced that four tolls will be abolished from January next year when tabling Budget 2018 in Parliament yesterday.
Aside from the two tolls in Selangor and Bukit Kayu Hitam, the government also announced the removal of toll on the Eastern Dispersal Link in Johor.
PLUS currently owns a total of 94 tolls nationwide. Among its other highway operations are the New Klang Valley Expressway, the North-South Expressway, the Malaysia-Singapore Central Crossing, the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway and the Penang Bridge. – October 28, 2017.
