MUHAMMED Yusoff Rawther’s father today clarified that his family was aware of the alleged sexual misconduct against his son by Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement, Muhammed Ali Mohd Idris refuted an earlier statement made by his uncle, Mohideen Abdul Kader, who yesterday said that none of his family members were told of the incident that allegedly occurred a year ago.

“This is a statement issued by me, father to Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, as the head of our family, in response to the statements made by one Mohideen Abdul Kader on December 4 and 5, 2019.

“Mohideen is simply the brother of my late father, but does not in any way represent the views of our family, and neither is he speaking on behalf of our family.

“My family would like to discredit and disavow the statements made by Mohideen. I wish to state and clarify that, in fact, our family was informed of the incident that took place either on the day itself or in close proximity to it, by my son himself,” Ali said.

Ali said that Mohideen did not speak to the family before issuing his statement against Yusoff.

“I am terribly disappointed that Mohideen chose not to communicate with us or to seek confirmation from me or my family as to what had actually transpired, prior to issuing his slanderous statement against my son.

“I hope he will think, think again, and gather the truth and facts before jumping the gun in front of the public camera.

“As the head of my family, I also wish to state that our family would like to refrain from making any further statements or to give any further comments regarding this matter. Any information sought will be conveyed through the appropriate channels or to the court of law,” he added.

On Wednesday, Yusoff, a former research officer who had worked in the PKR president’s office from September 2018 to May 2019, alluded that a sexual offence had been perpetrated against him by a senior PKR leader last year.

“I can only describe the matter as unIslamic, vile, insidious, morally repugnant and criminal in nature,” he had said.

He had also said that he had outlined the full details of the incident that transpired, attached with all the necessary and relevant evidence, in a statutory declaration (SD).

The SD is currently going viral on social media.

Anwar had dismissed the former staffer’s sexual misconduct accusation as an attempt to discredit him.

“I have seen the claim made by an individual named Muhammad Yusoff Rawther in the media and social media,” Anwar had said in a statement.

“I reject such baseless slander.”

Anwar had said he was campaigning for the Port Dickson by-election on the date the alleged incident took place.

“I attended an event to remember Mahatma Gandhi in Kuala Lumpur, and returned to Port Dickson to continue campaigning.” – December 6, 2019.
