THERE are no other meetings apart from the national congress in Malacca, said PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“Everything was discussed with president Anwar Ibrahim at the political bureau last night. The president has accepted the explanation,” said Azmin during a press conference on the sidelines of the PKR Congress in Malacca.

“However, this is an internal party matter,” said the Economic Affairs Minister tonight.

Azmin, who was initially not invited to officiate the Youth meeting, had just officiated the opening of the women and youth wings tonight.

The decision to reverse the snub was reached after a last-minute pow wow between his faction and Anwar in Parliament yesterday.

The 55-year-old said that it was not unusual for the deputy president to officiate the youth meeting.

It was previously stated that an alternative congress would be held in Kuala Lumpur by factions close to Azmin.

“I do this each year while the president officiates the main congress. This is unsurprising and I’m happy to be at the women and youth wings,” said Azmin.

Meanwhile, he has put his weight behind Anwar over allegations of sexual misconduct made by an ex-party staffer.

“We have to defend Anwar,” he said.

“We have rejected gutter politics from the very start. Anwar has done the right thing by making a police report and we should let the police investigate this.

“The congress will not discuss this issue as it will focus on national policies,” said Azmin. – December 5, 2019.
