We need five years to fulfil manifesto, says Dr Mahathir

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the incoming Pakatan Harapan administration was wholly unprepared for the mess in which the outgoing Barisan Nasional government had left the country, forcing PH to re-evaluate its election promises. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Seth Akmal, November 30, 2019.

THE Pakatan Harapan coalition did not have adequate information when drafting its manifesto ahead of the 14th general election, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, explaining why some of its promises cannot be fulfilled at the moment.

“If some are not happy, they can vote again in GE15. Our promises were many and it will take us five years at least to complete everything,” Dr Mahathir said, responding to the dissatisfaction of the current PH government.

Dr Mahathir said PH did not possess accurate information about the state of the nation when drafting its manifesto, and as soon as it took over Putrajaya it realised the trouble left by the previous government was appalling.

“Due to the atrocious problems left by BN, it is harder for us to fulfil our promises,” he said on the sidelines of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Perkim) event in Selangor today.

A recent survey conducted by Emir Research showed that majority of Malaysians felt PH was not up to mark and were unsure if the country was on the right track.

It found that 75% of the respondents were either unsure or pessimistic of the current government, while only 24% found the PH government viable.

The survey – The Pulse From the Ground: Voices & Expectations of the Rakyat on Current Socio-economic Issues – was conducted from September 5 to October 10 and polled 1,992 respondents. – November 30, 2019.

  • What does it take to recognise the UEC? Just TDM's approval. So stop making excuses. We don't believe you.
What doe it take to abolish SOSMA? Just TDM's approval. We know you are lying to protect ZN.
What did it take to ratify ICERD and the Rome Statutes? Just a spine.

We are not fools. We taught you a lesson in Tanjung Piai and will repeat this until you comply, resign, or kick the bucket.

  • We appreciate your kind leadership in pre and post GE14. But now time for TDM to leave graciously. The reality is TDM failed to perform.

  • Sorry, but you are not gonna fulfil jack- s**t, simply for the reason is because you do not intend to. And come another by-election, or even the next GE, you - just like the BN govt before - will go town trying to offer cosmetics to the electorate.
