MUSLIM countries are unable to defend one another because their leaders are inefficient in governing their countries, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

Speaking today at the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Perkim) AGM in Petaling Jaya, Dr Mahathir said because of this, Muslims had to seek protection from the West.

“Today, we see many Islamic countries unable to help fellow Muslims who are in trouble because we are incapable of governing our own countries.

“There is no more an Islamic country as strong as the Ottoman empire, which the Western world used to look up to,” the prime minister said.

He said many refugees today are from Muslim-majority countries because of instability in their own countries.

“And because they cannot get justice in their own land, they go to the West for protection.”

Dr Mahathir said it was a shame there were some ungrateful Muslims who failed to appreciate the kindness shown to them by the non-Muslim states that had taken them in as refugees.

“Unfortunately we still have some ingrate Muslims. After being accepted they come in and cause problems by ruining the country’s peace and stability.”

Dr Mahathir later told the press there should be some cooperation between the Muslim nations to find solutions for the Muslims who were oppressed in their home countries.

“We have the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) but we cannot negotiate terms with each individual country.

“I think the best way to help Muslims today is through the cooperation of three or four countries. So it will be easier to discuss ways to help the Muslims or to develop a Muslim country.” – November 30, 2019.

  • All leaders of any religion are equally inefficient if they preach and rule at the same time. They are simply ignorant about the reality of the pluralistic world where the worship of different highest authorities inevitably creates conflicts in the human brains.
