HUMAN Resource Minister M. Kula Segaran and Bagan Dalam rep Satees Muniandy are the latest DAP leaders sued by Zakir Naik for defamation, reports Free Malaysia Today.
The controversial Mumbai-born preacher, whose continued stay in Malaysia has been criticised, previously filed suits against Klang MP Charles Santiago and Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy.
In his suits, Zakir referred to articles published by local news portals quoting the four politicians, and accused them of labelling him as a national security threat.
The four have slammed his sermons as insulting to non-Muslims, and said his presence in Malaysia has strained ties between the country’s different races.
The latest denunciation of Zakir came from Santiago, who told a forum on Monday that the arrest of 12 men over alleged links to the now-defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam stemmed from DAP’s criticism of the preacher.
Two DAP assemblymen, from Negri Sembilan and Malacca, are among the 12 under police investigation.
Zakir seeks to prevent the four DAP leaders from publishing or uttering further remarks against him, as well as an apology to be published in newspapers and portals.
He is also demanding compensation and exemplary damages.
Zakir is wanted in India on suspicion of money-laundering and inciting terrorism.
The Pakatan Harapan administration has been panned for not revoking his Malaysian permanent resident status after he made allegedly racist remarks at a ceramah in Kelantan a few months ago. – November 28, 2019.
