ANWAR Ibrahim has said he does not know of any motion to be tabled in Parliament to allow Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to serve his full term in office.
“If there is any government motion, it must be brought to the Pakatan Harapan council and we have not heard anything,” the PKR president and Port Dickson MP told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.
“If there is a backdoor proposal, ask the person involved.”
There is a rumour in Parliament that a member of the administration will table a motion on the last day of the current sitting on December 5 to allow Dr Mahathir to see out his term in office.
In September, Anwar said he expected to become prime minister in 2020.
However, after Barisan Nasional’s recent victory in the Tanjung Piai by-election, Dr Mahathir came under some pressure to relinquish power in favour of Anwar, as per their agreement.
Yet, after last week’s PH council meeting, pact leaders agreed there should be a cabinet reshuffle but no call was made for Dr Mahathir to step down.
Anwar then said Dr Mahathir had not changed his mind about handing over power and regretted some quarters trying to twist the situation to suit their own ends. – November 26, 2019.
