PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali should attend party meetings instead of holding gatherings with opposition MPs, party advisory council chairman Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said.

She said PKR’s political bureau will discuss the meeting Azmin hosted at his residence in Putrajaya last night, which was attended by 22 Barisan Nasional MPs and several PKR lawmakers. The meeting is speculated to have discussed plans fight attempts to oust Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“It would be good if he goes to the meeting, the (PKR) political bureau meeting,” Wan Azizah told reporters in the Parliament lobby.

Azmin has not been attending PKR leadership meetings for about a year, despite public reminders by party colleagues.

This, coupled other issues, such as a sex video which implicating the economic affairs minister, his call for Dr Mahathir to finish his term, has led to  frayed ties with PKR Anwar Ibrahim, who is slated to assume the prime ministership.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said he was aware of the meeting at Azmin’s house only from news reports and that the party had yet to receive any information on it.

The political bureau will meet tomorrow to discuss the meeting, he said.

“I believe when the political bureau (meeting) is held tomorrow, we will definitely discuss this matter,” Fahmi told reporters in Parliament.

“It is my hope that all leaders will be present for us to get full details of what is happening.” – November 19, 2019.

  • Azmin now, is for all intents and purposes, a Bersatu/UMNO/PAS MP. Is he then not illegitimately holding on to his position in PKR on false pretenses?
