PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he has no knowledge of what was discussed at the meeting which took place between Azmin Ali and Barisan Nasional MPs last night in Putrajaya.
Dr Mahathir said he heard about the meeting at the economic affairs minister’s house but has no details about it.
“I heard (about the meeting) but I don’t know what was discussed,” Dr Mahathir told reporters at a function in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
The Malaysian Insight reported yesterday that the meeting at Azmin’s house in Putrajaya was on how to stop attempts to force Dr Mahathir out of office, following Pakatan Harapan’s crushing defeat in the Tg Piai by-election on Saturday.
Pressure on Dr Mahathir to quit has garnered momentum after PH lost heavily in Tg Piai on Saturday.
Azmin, who has a frosty relationship with his boss in PKR, Anwar Ibrahim, defended Dr Mahathir, saying the 94-year-old leader was not at fault.
Former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein was among the Umno MPs at the meeting.
The Sembrong MP has been linked with efforts to get his party men to join PH and keep Dr Mahathir in power to deny Anwar the prime ministership. Hishammuddin has denied these allegations.
The two-hour meeting ended at 11.30pm and those who left Azmin’s house kept mum on what was discussed.
However, Hishammuddin tweeted this morning he had nothing to hide and was prepared to be investigated by the party’s disciplinary committee. – November 19, 2019.
