Apology is in order, Perak DAP tells Faizal

PERAK DAP secretary Wong Kah Woh has urged Ahmad Faizal Azumu to apologise for his statements portraying the party as an enemy of Islam and the Malay community.

Wong said the Perak menteri besar’s belittling of his own allies while elevating the opposition was “wholly unacceptable”.

“What he says in the recording is highly regrettable and embarrassing. It also contradicts the spirit of Pakatan Harapan,” Wong said in a statement today.

Wong was referring to a widely-shared video in which Faizal tells his Malay supporters that he alone is battling DAP to defend the Malays and their religion.

“In Perak, I am fighting a desperate battle alone against ‘puak-puak’ (factions of) DAP.

“I want to defend the land of the Malays. I want to champion our religion.”

In the clip, which appears to have been captured on the Tg Piai campaign trail, Faizal claims to have shunned his PH colleagues on nomination day in Pontian.

“I sat with the Umno gang… I am fed up with the ministers, they also fight.”

The PH candidate for Tg Piai, Karmaine Sardini, is also seen in the video.

Wong said Faizal’s behaviour in the video failed to demonstrate the integrity that a leader, especially a PH leader, must own.

“I must stress that the unity spirit of PH must be supported at all times and that the Perak menteri besar, as chairman of Perak PH, should lead by example instead of doing the opposite.

“I urge Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu to apologise to the PH presidential council over this incident.”

Faizal has told the media that his words in the video were taken out of context.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin earlier today said he would ask Faizal for an explanation over the video.

Muhyiddin said Faizal was expressing his personal views which were not shared by the PH coalition.

Bersatu has two seats in the Perak legislative assembly. DAP has 18 seats, Amanah, six and PKR, 4.

In the general election last year, Bersatu had won only one seat through Faizal but it has since gained another with the admission of a former Umno rep into the party. – November 8, 2019.

  • This 2-seater MB must be a gentleman and resign as he has blown away what little chance of Harapan in the by-election, by sabotaging the coalition, disparaging and lying about the coalition partner

  • The 2Rs elements in PH will live for a while because of presence of ex-UMNO members in Bersatu. PH must find ways to filter them out before the pakatan is ruined by these extremist ideologies which are divisive.
