Malaysia won’t go to war over Jho Low, says Dr Mahathir

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Malaysia will not go to war with the country allegedly hosting fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho as doing so would mean losing both the war and the alleged 1MDB mastermind. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, November 7, 2019.

MALAYSIA will not pick a fight with the country hosting fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, known as Jho Low, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said Malaysia is conscious it lacks the military strength to go against a strong country and could not chance a war over the alleged mastermind of the 1 Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

“We can go to war, but we will lose the war and Jho Low. We are conscious that we are not a very strong nation.

“Sometimes people are nice to us, sometimes they are not. We have to accept that,” the prime minister told reporters today

He did not name the country concerned.

Dr Mahathir today dismissed talk that Low might have undergone plastic surgery to change his looks and his possession of multiple passports as merely rumours.

He said the authorities are working hard to get information, but it is not easy to obtain.

“We are working hard to bring him back. But it isn’t easy. I am told he may carry several passports, told he may have undergone several alterations to his face. All these rumours don’t have proof,” said Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir said he does not know where Low is hiding, whether in the East or West.

The prime minister said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador only updates him when needed and thus they may not always be on the same page.

“He had told me where he found him (Low). I would not know, but he does not ring me up every time he finds Low. Once in a while, he tells me,” said Dr Mahathir. – November 7, 2019.

  • These problems on corruption is nothing new. The seeds were sown in 1980s with patronage , racial discrimination ( so called affirmative action. The policy to segregate Malaysian into Malays and Non-Malays, Muslims and others , Bumiputras and Non-Bumiputras brought in a wave of elite Bumiputras into power. The Razaks, the Hussein Onn's and etc. These elite Bumiputras had their own bunch of crony that supported them. and kept them in power. Najib's corruption is the tip of the iceberg in Malaysian history. While a handful was arrested and facing prosecution hundreds more have got away-some actually paying fines for abetting the offence of corruption. My point is corruption is endemic in Malaysia and very part of Malay society. I remember the Taxi licences that were given to the Ministers. The recent Economic Ministers expenditure overseas. How many kampongs could have been fed, children clothed and books purchased. The people( elite) dont care about the poor Malay, Indian or Chinese. Millions voted for Anwar Ibrahim I think that time has come for the baton to be passed. DR M should hand over the reins to DR M. The latters choices were very bad-we dont want to make a mistake anymore, we want the leader that we voted govern Malaysia. I loved his speeches on good governance, anti-corruption, separation of powers and moving Malaysia to a true 21st century democracy. DR M, thank you and I hope you go gracefully. We are worried about dynasties-we dont want another Singapore. We need BN to be a STRONG opposition. Plurality must exist for democracy to take root.
