THE Selangor government will make it mandatory for households in the state to separate solid wastes according to types.

State Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the committee was drafting a bill on the management of solid wastes and public cleansing towards this purpose.

“The Housing and Local Government Ministry has been informed of this aspiration and to request for consultation on the matter.

“The implementation will see the public separating their solid wastes following types, namely, materials that can be recycled, wastes and bulk wastes, while waiting for the stipulated collection day,” he told the Selangor State Assembly today.

He said this when answering a question from Chua Wei Kiat (PKR-Rawang) on the implementation of the solid waste separation regulation in the state.

Commenting further, Hee said awareness on separating solid waste among the people of Selangor was still low, despite awareness campaigns.

“Residents refuse to separate their solid wastes to avoid coughing up additional costs to buy plastic (bags) with different colours for waste separation,” he added. – Bernama, November 6, 2019.
