What goes around, comes around

HE SOUNDED indignant, angry even. How dare this unnamed country give refuge to fugitive Low Taek Jho?

How dare this country ignore countless requests for information and assistance in repatriating the alleged mastermind of the theft of billions of ringgit from 1MDB?

How dare this country behave in such a flippant and cavalier manner when Malaysian authorities have made clear the seriousness of the offences for which Jho Low is wanted?

How dare this unnamed country treat a genuine extradition request with such disdain?

Inspector-General of Police Hamid Bador even has reason to be miffed that Jho Low is being protected by the government of another country.

It is his job to bring to book those who have criminal charges hanging over their head. And Jho Low has a plethora of charges related to the 1MDB scandal hovering over his head.

It must be frustrating for Hamid to be thwarted by the insolence of a foreign country when it is clear that the individual being offered protection is high up on the wanted list in Malaysia.

Perhaps as he and his men stew over this insult by Jho Low’s protectors, they might also take a moment to reflect on the frustration India feels given the blanket of warmth offered to fugitive Zakir Naik by Malaysia.

India has gone on record many times asking that Malaysia extradite the controversial preacher for a series of alleged offences related to money-laundering.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that Putrajaya cannot send him to his country because it was uncertain that he would get a fair trial.

Accompanying that flimsy reason by the PM has been the glacial investigation by the police into incendiary comments Zakir made at a gathering in Kota Baru some months ago.

At that event, the permanent resident is said to have made damaging remarks against Malaysian Indians and Chinese.

From the outside, looks like an open and shut case.

Yet, still zilch. So, while Hamid and his men have reason to be indignant about this unnamed country’s lack of co-operation in handing Jho Low over, I hope they understand the indignation some Malaysians feel about the lack of action against Zakir Naik.

The man wanted by India is free to roam around Malaysia, and at times, he even enjoys the glamour of a motorcade and outriders.

How nice! What great hosts we are.

What goes around comes around. We reap what we sow.

The fact is the unnamed country is treating Malaysia the same we are treating India.

We want a fugitive to be brought back home to face charges. So does India.

As long as the Zakir Naik issue remains unresolved, Malaysia’s attempt to lecture that unnamed country for harbouring Jho Low is less convincing.

  • Know why Malaysia is regressing compared to other countries? Because its leaders made decisions based on race and religion instead of according to best practices.

Mahathir delusionally thinks he is very smart but he is usually conned by MUSLIM foreigners. Previously, he was made a fool by InventQjaya (google-lah!) ..... and the do-nothing-middle-eastern-land-investors (tricked him into selling land cheap, cheap).

  • This whole problem has to do with the term 'Fifth Column' in Malaysia. Corruption has created a very strong fifth column in Malaysia. They fear nobody. They say and do what they like with immunity ans sometimes even supported by the government itself in their silence.. As a born Muslims, suddenly I find political events around me has made me' look and feel like a racist' which I am not, This was never there in the last 8 decades of my life. Look at out constitution and listen to some of the political speeches. The irony is the Muslims are divided. We want ZN, but Bangladsh also a majority Muslim country does not want him. I feel sad that people like Jho Low and ZN have supporters too.. . .

There is no guarantee that if Malaysia sent Zakir back, Jho Low would be returned to Malaysia.
