SHAFIE Apdal arrived at the Kota Kinabalu courthouse at 2.20pm with police escorts for his remand hearing today.
The Parti Warisan Sabah president, who turns 60 today, was not in remand clothing as he had just been discharged from Queen Elizabeth Hospital 30 minutes ago.
Shafie, the former rural and regional development minister, was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission after giving his statement pertaining to its probe into the RM1.5 billion in government funds allegedly siphoned off while he was a federal minister.
He was arrested after nearly four hours of questioning at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu.
Shortly after the arrest, Shafie was warded for high blood pressure late last night.
Outside, Warisan supporters were seen holding a banner wishing Shafie “happy birthday”. Amid shouts of “ubah Sabah”, the supporters also sang a birthday song.
Accompanying Shafie were Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr and deputy president Darell Leiking. – October 20, 2017.
