WARISAN president Shafie Apdal’s health condition has improved since he was hospitalised late last night, said party secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr.

Padua was unsure if the former rural and regional development minister was well enough to attend court this afternoon.

Shafie is scheduled to go to court at 2pm for his remand hearing. He was arrested late last night after giving his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

Padua said the doctors would decide whether Shafie could be discharged later.

“I am not sure whether the magistrate will hear the remand application in court or at the hospital.”

Shafie was warded at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night due to high blood pressure.

The Malaysian Insight understands that there was a quarrel between Padua and MACC officers at the hospital.

The MACC officers had insisted on taking Shafie to the Kepayan Prison despite his health condition.

The officers relentedafter doctors said Shafie had to be admitted, a source said.

“The doctor who checked him got so fed up that he said he would wash his hands and leave it to the MACC (to answer) should anything happen to Shafie during custody,” he said.

Meanwhile, no Warisan supporters were seen at the hospital.

Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking was visiting Shafie, who also had his family with him in the ward.   – October 20, 2017.
