POLICE will seek Interpol’s help to detain a 38-year-old man who had allegedly insulted Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador on Twitter last Monday.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed told a press conference that the wanted man has been living abroad since 2007.

“We have checked his background. We know where he is and we are going to get Interpol’s help to bring this man back.

“This man insulted the IGP as being a pet, or a dog for our PM and labelled our PM as the master (tuan anjing).

“The case is being investigated under Section 505B of the Penal Code for causing fear among the people through a blog posting and under Section 233 of the Communications Act,” Huzir said.

Checks on Twitter showed the man who goes by the handle @Naavinpillay8 used “dog” and “master” to refer to IGP and PM.

In a different Twitter post, he also said Indians should have an independent state similar to Sabah and Sarawak and free from radical Malays and Islamic State.

In another incident, police detained a tour agent in Penang for allegedly insulting Islam on Facebook.

Huzir disclosed that eight police reports were lodged against the man known as VT Vasagam.

“We arrested him yesterday. He initially came to the police station in Timur Laut in Penang.

“The man had uploaded an image of a pig with a halal logo imprinted on the animal with words ‘Hadi, Zakar Naik lebai’ and some other derogatory words.” – October 16, 2019.
