PUTRAJAYA should get the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to investigate allegations that Barisan Nasional has stolen RM150 billion, said Najib Razak.
“If it is not true, then action should be taken against the Bagan MP (Lim Guan Eng),” said the former prime minister during the Budget 2020 debate today.
“And he should stop using the annual budget presentation as a stage for politics,” said the Pekan MP.
During the national budget presentation last Friday, Lim told Parliament that the government had to pay RM2.7 billion for debts incurred by 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Lim said that Malaysia’s plan to become a high income nation by 2020 was derailed due to kleptocracy involving some RM150 billion.
Najib said PH should not use the budget as a way to restore its popularity that has fallen since coming into power.
“The budget should be used to solve problems. And don’t sell all our best assets and incur debts quickly,” said Najib, whose 1MDB trial was postponed today after the former prime minister was given a slot to speak in Parliament in the afternoon.
In seeking the court’s understanding, Najib’s lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said late DAP lawmaker Karpal Singh was allowed to attend parliamentary sessions when he was tried for sedition.
Shafee told judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah that Najib, who is Pekan MP, would like to exercise his parliamentary duties
After his debate, Noor Amin Ahmad (PH-Kangar) reminded Najib that it was during his administration that government debt more than doubled.
“From the time he was PM in 2009 and until he lost in 2018, the national debt ballooned from RM300 billion to almost RM700 billion,” sad the Kangar MP. – October 15, 2019.
