SELANGOR folk with a household income of RM4,000 and above, who live in a home with many family members, may still get to enjoy free water next year.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the head of the family can submit an application, supported by evidence.

“Big households that feel they are entitled to free water can still apply… We will evaluate their applications, which must come with proof of the number of family members,” he told reporters after opening the Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s Islamic Transformation Management Convention in Shah Alam.

He was asked to comment on complaints by big households after the state government announced the revised water scheme to take effect on March 1 next year.

Under the Darul Ehsan Water Scheme, only those with a household income of RM4,000 and below are eligible for 25 cubic metres of free water a month.

Amirudin said a state government study found that 65% of recipients under the current scheme will continue to receive free water next year.

“For now, we are offering free water to all Selangor residents, regardless of their household income.”

He added that the state government plans to set up a monitoring team with the Smart Selangor agency to monitor rivers at risk of pollution. – Bernama, October 1, 2019.
