POLICE will call in more Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) personnel to assist in the investigation over the network failure at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 two weekends ago.

KLIA police chief Zulkifli Adamshah told The Malaysian Insight that police are looking to question more staff members who supervised the KLIA system.

“So far, eight individuals have been questioned. Four from the IT unit and the other four controlled the KLIA system unit.

“We are looking to call in more people from the unit that supervise the system. However, we do not know as yet how many will be called up,” he said.

“Anyone who can assist us with the investigation, we will call them for questioning.”

The network failure which started on August 21 resulted in a system outage for about four days at both terminals, resulting in chaos in operations, flight delays and frustrated passengers.

MAHB chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin in a statement did not rule out the possibility of “an act with malicious intent” that resulted in the network failure at both terminals.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad previously urged the authorities to investigate the cause of the system disruption.

He said the failure at the airport should not have occurred.

“We have to find out the reason for the breakdown. It should not have happened because similar systems are in use at other airports and they don’t face the problems that we do,” he told Malaysian journalists after concluding his three-day official visit to Vietnam last week. – September 2, 2019.
