FOUR people will be called in for police questioning over network failure that crippled operations in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) recently, reported the New Straits Times.

The report said the four people are familiar with the function of network core switches and Total Airport Management System (TAMS) at KLIA and klia2.

It was also reported that Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd (MAHB) had listed the names of the four people in its police report.

The network failure beginning August 21 had resulted in a systems outage for about four days at both terminals, resulting in chaos in operations, flight delays and frustrated passengers.

KLIA police chief Zulkifli Adamshah was reported as confirming that MAHB lodged a report over the issue on Tuesday.

The incident is investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage through act of mischief.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said MAHB must investigate the cause of the critical systems malfunction at KLIA. https://www.themalaysianinsight.com/s/179267

He said the systems failure at the airport should not have occurred.

“We have to find out the reason for the breakdown. It should not have happened because similar systems are in use at other airports and they don’t face the problems that we do.”

It was previously reported that the disruption at the airport could be due to a cyber attack.

However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke had asked for such speculations to be stopped, adding that it was premature to link the incident to a cyber attack.

MAHB chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin in a statement did not rule out the possibility of “an act with malicious intent” that had resulted in the network failure at both terminals. – August 29, 2019.
