Pakatan struggling, will break up soon, says Zahid

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is struggling to maintain its relevance among the people and faces the risk of breaking apart, said Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said the ruling pact that took over the government after Barisan Nasional’s 60-year rule in the last polls, is made up of allies have their own agendas.

“Day by day, we are served with PH’s political drama as it attempts to create an image in people’s minds that it is relevant to current needs.

“The reality and truth is, however, far from what has been said. Each of them (PH parties) has their own strategies to dominate each other.

“This situation is a new phenomenon in PH’s existence, this is political gangrene,” he said in his speech at MIC’s 73rd general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that the conspiracy against PH chairman and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad from within will soon lead to the pact’s demise.

“In fact, Dr Mahathir is alone in PH today, as PKR under Anwar Ibrahim and DAP’s Lim Kit Siang are actively strategising against his leadership.

“It is possible that PH will soon see its end because that’s the consequence (of the alleged plot).”

Zahid also urged MIC members to regain the support of Indian voters by explaining to them that BN’s common goal of bringing prosperity for the people.

Since the defeat in the polls, BN now only consists of Umno, MCA and MIC.

Umno, in its attempt to regain the Malay support, has decided to forge cooperation with former rival PAS.

This cooperation has also seen a change in MIC’s stance in accepting PAS.

MIC’s annual meeting today saw the attendance of PAS vice-president Zawawi Salleh, Muslimat chief Nuridah Mohd Saleh and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan. – August 25, 2019.
