THE tragic case of Nora Anne Quoirin, the Franco-Irish teen found dead in Negri Sembilan last week, has not affected the tourism industry, said Tourism Malaysia Director-General Musa Yusof.
He said the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has not received negative feedback from travel agencies following the incident.
“It was an unfortunate event. All of us feel sorry for the family.
“However, checks by the ministry showed that there has been no negative impact on our sector,” he told The Malaysian Insight in Putrajaya today.
Nora Anne, a 15-year-old special needs child, was found dead on August 13 near The Dusun resort.
She had been reported missing on August 4, a day after her family arrived in Malaysia for a vacation.
Her father, Sebastien, lodged a missing persons report the same day she went missing, triggering a massive search operation.
A post-mortem showed that Nora Anne died of a ruptured intestine due to starvation two to three days before her remains were discovered.
The Quoirin family have claimed the body, which was then brought back to London, the UK.
Malaysian police have ruled out foul play in the case. French authorities, meanwhile, are conducting a probe into the teen’s death, a standard practice for overseas cases involving French nationals. – August 23, 2019.
