PERAK state executive councillor Paul Yong’s expected rape charge could lead to his sacking by DAP, thus putting the Pakatan Harapan-led state government in a precarious position, according to Malaysiakini.
Even if he is not sacked, the charges or any disciplinary action against Yong may lead him to quit the party and become an independent.
Whether he is sacked by the party of if he leaves by his own choice, his removal from his position would mean Perak is being held onto by a one-seat majority.
PH’s fate would then depend on independent Tualang Sekah assemblyperson Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi.
Should her allegiance change from being PH-friendly, the state government would collapse without Yong, said the news portal.
PH was able to form the Perak government after former Umno members Nolee and Sg Manik assemblyperson Zainol Fadzi Paharudin decided to support the coalition.
Zainol has since joined Bersatu, while Nolee remains an independent.
Yong would be charged at the Ipoh High Court tomorrow over allegations that he raped his domestic helper.
On July 8, a 23-year-old Indonesian woman lodged a police report claiming that she was raped by Yong. He has denied the allegation, and is currently out on police bail. – August 22, 2019.
