DAP has shown itself to be the true power in the Pakatan Harapan government following the cabinet’s decision to make khat calligraphy optional in vernacular schools, said Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin.

He said the government’s announcement yesterday to allow the teaching of khat calligraphy to Year 4 pupils in vernacular schools be decided by the respective parent-teacher associations (PTAs) would mean that it would never be taught at all.

“Everyone knows that no PTAs of vernacular schools are going to allow it.

“The cabinet’s decision to leave it to the PTAs has shown who is really in charge of the government. It is clear DAP is the true power.

“Even a statesman like (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the end is defeated by DAP’s unreasonable demands,” Khaled said in a statement today.

He also described the cabinet as a “rubber stamp” to DAP, which he said was the force behind Chinese education group, Dong Jiao Zong.

Dong Jiao Zong comprises United Chinese School Committees Association, or Dong Zong, and Jiao Zong, the United Chinese School Teachers Association of Malaysia.

The cabinet’s decision to let vernacular school PTAs have a say in the teaching of khat in the Year 4 Bahasa Melayu syllabus comes after weeks of heated debate over the policy that was first introduced by the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

Khaled’s attack comes despite DAP’s repeated explanation that its ministers only raised issues in the cabinet for discussion and the cabinet made decisions based on consensus.

He said the decision on khat could not have been made through consensus, as it effectively removed the teaching of the Jawi script that is part of Malaysia’s cultural plurality.

“This is the tragedy, this is the other side of the their (DAP’s) position when they say they uphold Bahasa Melayu’s position in the Federal Constitution.” – August 15, 2019.

  • These damn Umno people have no new ideas. Theyre constantly stirring problems by using race and religion. How about trying to come up with some real plans and ideas that can take the country forward instead of these tired, old racial issues.

I ask all Malaysians including UmNo menbers to drop this leader in our Malaysia Baru line up. All Malaysians must drop all politicians who are opportunist, racist and with wicked intention to weaken the country.

  • A non citizen like Zakir can gain muslim popularity in Kelantan, Trengganu and Perlis, the three most backwards states of Peninsular Malaysia. Can u all imagine how regressive this people? When everyday people are working from hand to mouth, democracy, integrity, transparency and trustworthiness means nothing to them. PH must use a different approach and strategies to tackle this group of voters.
