Open letter from Lynas engineering staff

WE write this letter as the engineers and technicians of the Lynas Malaysia plant. Many of us joined Lynas as graduates, and the company has given us the opportunity to develop our skills and to provide a future for our families.

Over 90% of the jobs at Lynas are semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled jobs. Over 4,000 local jobs have been created from the operations of Lynas. We work for a Malaysian-run high-tech company that brings jobs and economic opportunities for all Malaysians.

Our message to the people of Malaysia is simple. Please trust the scientific experts. Four independent reviews, including the 2018 Pakatan Harapan Executive Review Committee, found that Lynas is low risk and compliant with applicable laws.

The anti-Lynas activists do not rely on facts and scientific evidence. They rely on misinformation and they do not represent our local communities.

Our company has been in the media a lot recently, and we write this letter as the people directly affected by decisions about the future of Lynas.

Our business is safe and the facts are clear. The people who benefit from the continued operations of Lynas are Malaysians like us – people who believe in Malaysia’s future, the facts and scientific evidence.

We are proud to be running one of the most complex chemical plants in Asia, and we are proud to be supporting Malaysia’s Industry Revolution 4.0 development. – August 14, 2019.

  • What good is money when your country's a barren wasteland? Additionally, if you have the skills, you can easily find another job elsewhere.

  • Can the writers advised why the waste from the process cannot be returned to its source in Australia as was the original agreement between Lynas and the Malaysian government in the licensing approval?

  • Show us by shipping your waste back. Then we can put this matter to rest.

  • There is a serious breach of contract to ship the waste back to Australia. Why isn't the waste being taken back to
    australia? Explain this first.
