RED Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos and seven other men were arrested early today after his latest stunt earlier yesterday, where he smashed 20 cartons of beer with a sledgehammer outside the Selangor state secretariat building.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Division chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said police were investigating Jamal for attending an illegal gathering and disturbing public order.

“Following the incident (of smashing the beer bottles), Shah Alam police received a report from the security guard, and an investigation was launched under Section 143 of the Penal Code for attending an illegal gathering, and Section 268 for causing a disturbance to public order.

“At 1.45am today, Jamal and seven men were arrested at Sekinchan in Sabak Bernam.”

He said they would be produced before the Shah Alam magistrate’s court for remand today.

“I was surrounded and arrested by the police at Sekinchan after finishing an Umno division meeting.

“I think this is going too far. I am now on the way to Shah Alam police district headquarters,” he said in a text message early today.

“Seven friends and I are still detained at Shah Alam police headquarters,” he said later this morning

Jamal’s protest yesterday was directed against the Selangor government after Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the state would allow beer festivals provided organisers adhered to conditions set by local councils.

Azmin had referred to the Centro German F&B Festival, where alcohol would be served, scheduled to be held on October 12 and 13.

Azmin also said the state had allowed such festivals in previous years because organisers fulfilled terms and conditions set by the local councils.

Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief, said such festivals that involved alcohol was immoral and would corrupt youth. – October 6, 2017.
